Bill O’Brien was hired as the 37th head coach in Boston College football history on Feb. 9, 2024, and in his first season led the Eagles to a 7–6 record, a Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl appearance, a top-10 road win at Florida State, and their first six-win season at Alumni Stadium since 2009.
BC ranked in the national top 25 in nine FBS statistical categories, including first in the ACC in fewest penalties per game, while Donovan Ezeiruaku earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors, the Ted Hendricks Award, and consensus All-America recognition after leading the nation in sacks.
A 32-year coaching veteran, O’Brien owns a 74–63 career head coaching record across college football and the NFL, including successful head coaching tenures at Penn State (2012–13) and with the Houston Texans (2014–20), where he won four AFC South titles and reached the playoffs four times.
He has also served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Alabama, helping develop Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young, and held multiple roles with the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick, contributing to two Super Bowl appearances and working directly with Tom Brady during MVP and All-Pro seasons. A Massachusetts native, O’Brien played linebacker at Brown University and brings extensive ACC, Big Ten, SEC, and NFL experience to Boston College, where he continues to build a competitive, disciplined program.
